The Virginia Department of Health appointed David Rose as the new director of the Alexandria Health Department on Monday, according to a news release.

Rose, a board-certified pediatrician who most recently served as the child and welfare medical director in the Maryland Department of Human Services, takes over the role from Dr. Anne Gaddy, the acting director of AHD since April 2021. Gaddy took over the role after former Director Dr. Stephen Haering retired in April.

Prior to his role in MDHS, Rose worked as the senior deputy director for primary care and prevention administration in the D.C. Department of Health; assistant commissioner for communicable diseases and epidemiology in the Baltimore City Health Department; and deputy health officer for public health in the Anne Arundel County Department of Health, according to the release.
