The Alexandria Police Department is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Saturday and left a pedestrian dead, according to an APD news release.
Around 7:35 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to calls that a pedestrian had been struck at the intersection of Duke and Sweeley streets, near the Alexandria Commons shopping center that is home to Giant, Panera Bread and Glory Days Grill.
John Thompson, 77, of Fairfax County, had been crossing Duke Street when he was struck by a motor vehicle, according to the release. Thompson was taken to a local hospital but died from his injuries at the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing and APD asks that anyone with information contact Officer Charles Gardiner at 703-408-6375.
