For the second time in as many months, thieves posing as construction workers distracted a pair of local homeowners long enough for a third accomplice to break into their house.

Appearing as construction workers, two suspects lured the Vermont Avenue homeowners out of their house to explain a nearby fencing project at about 10:27 p.m. on November 9. Police believe a third suspect gained entry through a possibly unlocked front door while they were in the backyard of the home.

The trio made off with an undisclosed amount of jewelry and cash, authorities said. Officials described them as Hispanic males.

Police dont know whether the burglary is related to an October 22 home invasion on East Oxford Avenue. A homeowner reported a faux construction worker distracted her with an update on a fictitious nearby construction job while another suspect rifled through her belongings, though nothing was taken.

Authorities advise homeowners to refrain from letting unknown construction workers into their homes, especially if theyre asking to see the backyard. Residents should lock all doors and windows out of eyeshot before meeting with anyone claiming to be a construction worker, police said.

Officials urge victims and witnesses of similar crimes to contact authorities.
