A Maryland woman and government employee faces two counts of credit card fraud in Alexandria after allegedly lifting a wallet from a La Madeleine patron in November.
Authorities arrested Terri Bellamy, 41, of Prince Georges County in Maryland on March 8 and extradited her to Alexandria. Police say Bellamy stole the wallet from the purse of the 500 King St. bakery patron between 11 and 11:30 a.m., November 14.
The victim noticed the theft as she left the store. Her credit card was used later that same day, police said.
Alexandria police worked with the United States Secret Service, Office of Inspector General, Prince Georges County Police and the federal departments of Agriculture and Homeland Security. They credit the hard work of inspectors and local investigators for the arrest.
The investigation remains open and further charges could be brought against Bellamy, police said.
