Alexandria’s Louis Yuhaszs appeared on the Rachel Ray show last month to highlight his national non-profit, Louieskids.org, which assists children from low-income families who are struggling with obesity.

The foundation began as a tribute to his dad, Big Louie,” who worked for the City of Alexandria for 46 years.

“Big Louie died because the stroke he suffered could not be diagnosed; his 550 lbs body could not fit in a cat-scan machine anywhere in the state of Virginia,” Yuhaszs said. “That was 7 years and nearly a quarter of a million dollars later.

These days, Louieskids.org is assisting children all over the U.S. With YMCA memberships, behavioral counseling, nutritionists and summer camp scholarships.

Mayor Bill Euille of Alexandria, along with Mayor Joe Riley of Charleston, SC and South Carolinas First Lady Jenny Sanford have recently signed a letter that was mailed to over 3,000 families in the Northern Virginia area offering their support of Louieskids.org, he said.
