Firefighters from three jurisdictions extinguished a fire Thursday on the eighth floor of a West End apartment building.
Alexandria Fire Department spokesman Michael Gerber said around 11 a.m. a resident walked into Station 208 on North Paxton Street to report seeing smoke at a nearby apartment complex. Almost simultaneously, a 911 call directed firefighters to the Parcview Apartments along the 5300 block of Holmes Run Parkway.
When emergency responders from Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax counties arrived, there was heavy smoke in the eighth floor, along with some smoke in the seventh and ninth floors, prompting a full evacuation of the building, Gerber said. Firefighters found the fire on the balcony and just inside of the apartment.
Gerber said the fire was extinguished quickly, and no one was injured in the blaze. He did not have an estimate as to the number of apartments damaged or a cost estimate of the losses Thursday afternoon.
