The city government has promoted its Buy Alexandria initiative for a long time, and on Friday will make it easier to make the notion a reality by offering free parking at all six city-owned garages and lots in Old Town.
    
Dozens of merchants will open early some as early as 6 a.m and many will offer deep discounts on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
    
Garages and lots will be free of charge at these locations: Market Square, Courthouse Square, Thompsons Alley, North Union Street, South Henry Street and Cameron/St. Asaph Street. Most open at 7 a.m. and some close as late as 2:30 a.m. the next morning. Visit www.AlexandriaVa.gov for more information.
