In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Gadsbys Tavern was the center of social and political life in Alexandria and the new Federal City of Washington.  The tavern served as the premier gathering place for residents — including George Washington — and visitors to eat, drink, learn, and influence history. It is located at 134 North Royal Street in the heart of Old Town.

Friday nights this summer season Gadsbys is offering tours of the circa 1785 tavern and 1792 City Hotel with costumed guides conducted by lantern light as patrons did 200 years ago before the advent of electricity.

Tours are every Friday night, June through August, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Tickets are $5 per person ages 5 and up.  Tours last approximately 30 minutes, with the last tour starting at 9:15 p.m.  Call ahead to confirm tour date.
