A thin sheet of ice fell across the city and region over night, closing Alexandria City Public Schools and giving city government employees liberal leave Tuesday.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory through until 9 a.m. Tuesday, but the ice is expected to thaw as temperatures rise above freezing around the same time.

Much of the main roads are clear, though side roads have not received as much attention from salt trucks. 

No serious injuries or accidents have been reported.
