A 23-year-old woman was murdered in her West End apartment on South Van Dorn Street on Dec. 7, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

APD responded to a call for service at approximately 2:40 p.m. when they discovered a Black female deceased in her apartment. What at first was reported as a cardiac arrest was later determined to be a homicide.

On Tuesday, the victim was identified as Alexandria resident Melia Jones. Police have not provided any details about the murder.
