An Alexandria resident died on March 28 from injuries suffered three days earlier, allegedly at the hands of his brother, the Alexandria Police Department announced March 29.
At 6:24 p.m. on March 25, officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of North Beauregard.
Street due to a fight between brothers Nelson Cruz, 28, and Brian Cruz-Segovia, 23, both Alexandria residents, according to police. Police found Cruz unconscious and he was transported to a local hospital. Police say the altercation was a physical fight.
Cruz succumbed to his wounds three days later and died at the hospital on March 28. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the manner of death to be homicide.
Brian Cruz-Segovia was arrested the day of the assault and charged with malicious wounding and, after Cruz’s death, second-degree murder.
Cruz’s death marks the first homicide of 2018 in the City of Alexandria. There were five homicides in Alexandria in 2017.
