In rather stunning news, T.C. Williams varsity boys basketball coach Ivan Thomas has stepped down and will relocate his family to the Williamsburg, Va. area primarily because of family responsibilities.

Thomas, who guided the Titans to the ’07/’08 AAA State Basketball Championship less than 100 days ago, will leave huge shoes to fill.

Prior to his stint with the Titans, Thomas guided the Edison Eagles to lofty heights in the National District.

Led by seniors Anthony Winbush and Travis Berry, T.C. finished 29-3 overall this past Championship season – in which the Titans won 10 consecutive post-season contests enroute to the elusive State Title. (Only the ’76/’77 Titans, under the leadership of Mike Hynson, had previously won a State Title).

After defeating West Potomac in mid-February ’08 for the Patriot District Tournament Championship, the “Red, White and Blue” defeated in order: Lake Braddock (50-37), W.T. Woodson (48-32), Herndon (69-49) and Langley (66-54) for the Northern Region Title and then defeated in order: Kings Fork (59-39), Petersburg (63-46) and Bethel (70-57) for the State Title.

Junior guard Edward Jenkins was named “Player of the Game” in the Titans 13-point win versus the Bethel Bruins forn the AAA “Gold Medal” – played at the “Siegel Center”/Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond).

Not only did Winbush and Berry graduate, but so did: Tomas Camara, Javonta Campbell, Ricky Colbert, Joshua Jordan and Earl Via.

The ’08/’09 Titans will be led by rising senior Edward Jenkins.
