A local man faces multiple charges, including assault on a police officer, after authorities caught him allegedly searching parked cars for valuables. 
    
Police arrested Austin Eric Witt, 19, after a witness spotted him going through cars on the 2700 block of Mosby St. about 2:05 p.m. on November 23. When officers confronted Witt, he allegedly spat on them, prompting the assault charge, police said. 
    
Witt also is charged with larceny, obstruction of justice and drunk in public.
