An investigation into the whereabouts of Simon BahtaAsfeha, the Alexandrian wanted for killing 27-year-old Seble G. Tessema and their daughter on April 11, ended in New York City last Thursday.

Alexandria detectives worked in conjunction with the United States Marshals Service and the New York Police Department to arrest the 34-year-old Asfeha. U.S. Marshal officers and NYPD officers took him into custody without incident after receiving a tip on where he was staying.

Tessema’s neighbor called the police on the morning of April 11 after hearing noises coming from the apartment. Officers arrived at a “traumatic” scene where both Tessema and her child were found with what appeared to be stab wounds in their necks, Alexandria Police spokesman Jodie Donaldson said.

A manhunt including a profile of Asfeha on America’s Most Wanted ensued.

“This suspect was found because of the tireless efforts of our detectives and the cooperative efforts of the United States Marshals Service and the New York Police Department,” said Alexandria Police Chief Earl L. Cook.”I greatly appreciate everyone’s diligence, hard work and commitment to bringing this man into custody.”

The murders were the first and second homicides in Alexandria this year.There were five homicides in the city last year.
