After splitting the first four games, Bishop Ireton couldn’t hold off the Maryland School for the Deaf in a do-or-die fifth set, falling in the nonconference volleyball matchup late last month.

Despite the defeat, the Cardinals got off to a hot start, winning the first set 25-12. MSD rallied in games two and three, beating Ireton 25-18, 25-16 respectively. But when the game was on the line, MSD came away with a 15-5 win to seal the match.

We did many good things, said coach Kathy Gutmann in a statement. Serving and passing were our strong points today, but it is the little things that got us.
