Madeline Joyce Beighley, 88, on October 4, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Allen Beighley, Jr. She is survived by a son, The Rev. Dr. Paul Allen Beighley, III, a daughter, Paulette Ellen Beighley; a granddaughter, three nieces, two nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. A committal service was held October 9, 2008 at the Quantico National Cemetery.

Marc Cathey, 79, on October 8, 2008. He was director of the U.S. National Arboretum from 1981 to 1991 during a time of great expansion and a shift in gardening toward a more natural style. Dr. Cathey was President of the Alexandria-based American Horticulture Society from 1993 until 1997, retiring as President emeritus in 1995 when he and his wife Mary returned to North Carolina. Many remember Dr. Cathey for his weekend radio show on WWRC-AM and his many appearances on the Today Show and Good Morning America.

Marian T. Clausen Billie, on October 8, 2008. She is survived by her husband, Stanley Clausen, Sr., two children and three grandchildren. Services were held at Jefferson Memorial Chapel on October 15, 2008

Grace Hulings Doughety, on October 6, 2008. She is survived by her husband, John R. Dougherty, CW5, USA (Ret.); children, Jenna M. Dougherty, Kristin M. Dougherty, and John R. Dougherty, II; also survived by two sisters, a brother and 15 nieces and nephews and 19 grand-nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Ft. Myer Chapel, Friday, November 7 at 2:45 pm.

Isabel Field, 82, on October 6, 2008. Field was a well-known local artist with studios at the Torpedo Factory. She was a founding member of Printmakers, Inc., where she combined painting and printmaking in a medium known as monotypes. Her work was featured locally and at the Phillips Collection. Her husband, Milton M. Field, died in 1950.

Charles William Fotis, LCDR, US Navy (Ret.), 94, on October 3, 2008. He was director of career development and training at the Defense Department from 1964 until his retirement in 1984. He began his career with the Air Force in 1947 after serving in the Navy during World War II. During his career, Dr. Fotis was an adjunct political science and public policy professor and lecturer at American University and George Washington University. Services were held at St. Sophias Greek Orthodox Church on October 13, 2008. Interment with Full Military Honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 3 p.m.

Edwin C. Graves, on October 9, 2008. For many years Graves was an administrative assistant to Senator Walter Dee Huddleston from Kentucky and in later years President of Ed Graves and Associates. A memorial service was held October 15, 2008 at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Jerri L. Gutridge, on October 3, 2008. She is survived by her husband, David Gutridge; two sons, David and Brian Gutridge. Services were held October 9, 2008 at Cunningham Funeral Home.

Lisa Michelle Hillary, on October 5, 2008. She was the mother of Felecia King, Sabrina Campbell and Kenneth Hillary; daughter of Elder Mary Saunders, sister of Tracy and Kevin Hillary. Services were held at Shiloh Baptist Church on October 10, 2008.

Gina Koubek, 39, on October 6, 2008. She was a marketing and distribution manager for beverage companies, most recently Figi water, and from 2001 to 2006 served as mid-Atlantic marketing manager for Evian water. She is survived by her husband, James R. Jamey Ferguson; her father Frank Koubek; her mother and stepfather, Connie and Mike Bockstie and sisters, Sue Probst, Kathy Koubek, Jacqueline Lanier, and Michele Appler; three nieces and eight nephews; and her Great Dane, Sasha.  Services were held on October 13, 2008 at St. Marys Catholic Church.

Kelton W. LaFever, Sgt. USA (Ret), on September 24, 2008, He is survived by his wife, Linda J. LaFever; and children; Elizabeth A, Eduard and Arnold LaFever. Funeral services will be held at the Ft. Myer Old Post Chapel on Tuesday, October 28 at 3 p.m.

Brian Dale Mayberry, on October 5, 2008. Mr. Mayberry was a retired electrical technician and president of the Franconia Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Frances M. Maybeery, and children Brian D. Mayberry, and Susan I.M. Burdett. Services were October 9, at Culmore United Methodist Church.

Ernest McIver, on October 9, 2008. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. McIver is survived by his wife, Nancy McIver; children, Jane and Susan McIver; stepchildren Jeffrey and Robert Fisher; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Dorothy ONeil Moore, on October 2, 2008. She is survived by her husband, Otis Moore; children, Franklin O. Moore, Dorothea M. Barringer, and Deborah M. Carey. She is also survived by one sister, Ida G. Adams, and seven grandchildren. Services were October 11, 2008 at Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Linda Joice Neff, on September 29, 2008. She is survived by her husband, William J. Neff; sons, Sean, Christopher and Patrick; her brother, Butch, and sister Margie. Services were October 11, 2008 at Demaine Funeral Home.

Anne M. Purdy, on October 6, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband William Purdy, sister, Ruth Page and brother, William Cunningham. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Jean Purdy and Barbara Erdodi; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and her brother, Ryland Cunningham. Services were October 10, 2008 at Jefferson Baptist Church.

Annah Smith Rohr, 100, on October 8, 2008. Wife of the late Thomas F. Rohr; mother of Thomas C. Rohr and his wife Brandon; and Patricia R. Rary; three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. Services were October 12 at St. Pauls Episcopal Church.

Rolland Roller, on October 8, 2008. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Berman, Diana Harvell and Suzy Quader; and granddaughter Miranda Seline. Services will be private.

Samuel Patrick Swearingen, Sr., on October 6, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Swearingen; children Samuel, Jr. (Shelley), Michael (Stephanie); brother of Paul Swearingen, Dr. Nancy Sullivan and Mary Babbidge; and three grandchildren. Services were October 10, 2008 at Jefferson Funeral Home.

Leonard Robert Whitecar, on October 6, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Kaye Whitecar; two sons, Leonard Chad Whitecar and Robert Sterling Whitecar; and one grandson, Leonard Chad Whitecar, Jr. Services were private.
