Authorities say a police officer was scratched trying to arrest an individual wanted for allegedly stealing a variety of goods at an Edsall Road Giant Food supermarket in late May. 
    
The suspect was caught in the act and fled the 5700 block grocery store about 9:35 p.m., May 23. The alleged thief injured the officer during his failed escape attempt, said department spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt. 
    
The individual was arrested a few blocks away, she said. Authorities have not yet released any of the suspects details. The individual faces a charge of felonious assault on a police officer.
