Alexandria police say they dont yet know if a robbery and attempted robbery on the same block of North Armistead Street within hours of each other on August 29 are connected. 

Smoking a cigarette outside on the 400 block about 12:01 a.m., an unidentified man was approached by an unknown and unarmed individual who demanded cash. The victim refused and instead called police, prompting the suspect to flee, said Ashley Hildebrandt, department spokeswoman. 

About 2:30 a.m., two suspects came up behind a man walking down the same block, demanded money and threatened to shoot him. The victim never saw a weapon, Hildebrandt said, but surrendered his wallet. 

The suspects fled after taking his money, according to police reports.
