Though 34-year-old Tim McGhee hasnt made an official announcement, the Falls Church database administrator is now the sole Republican contender vying for the state Senate District 30 seat.

McGhee got serious about his run in late May. Though he has yet to fully outline his priorities in Richmond, McGhee wants to make state government more transparent were he elected, he said.

Hes also straying away from making any campaign pledges before the November general election. The state and country cant stay mired in partisan politicking, McGhee said.

Im really interested in listening to both sides, he said. I dont think we can afford to have those polarizing debates.

McGhee has never held public office. This is his first campaign for an elected position. He plans to make a formal announcement later in the summer, likely July.
