St. Stephens and St. Agnes graduate Michael Schwimer had a less than perfect major league debut for the Philadelphia Phillies on August 21, taking the mound not too far from where he grew up.

The Fairfax native pitched three innings, giving up two hits and one run to the Washington Nationals. The Phillies went on to lose 5-4 after Nationals Jonny Gomes was struck by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 10th inning.

Schwimer, a right-hander, was called up to the Majors from the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on August 17. He graduated from SSSAS in 2004 and later played for the University of Virginia.
