At least one Alexandria School Board member rejected spending much if any more money on outside help for improving the management of the school system Thursday night.

Charles Wilson told board colleagues ACPS has spent plenty of money on learning the ins and outs of good policy governance in his 25-years of service. The lesson is, as always: dont micromanage, he said.

Thats not hard to understand and weve paid enough people to tell us that, Wilson said. I suggest were all smart enough where we can absorb that meta-message, that good governance occurs at 30,000 feet and doesnt focus on operational matters like we have been doing in the past.

His remarks came as Vice Chair Sheryl Gorsuch delivered her research thus far into good policy governance models. The board will continue work on its management style throughout the calendar year.
