A fair with a Scottish flair
Swords clanked, tankards clinked, tellers told stories and singers entertained the crowds with Gaelic tunes. The sound of the pipes echoed across Fort Ward Park Sunday as children stared at the bagpipers in their kilts and parents smiled, nodding their heads in rhythm to the refrains of familiar tunes.
Alexandria’s participation in the fair is legendary, since the city was founded by Scottish merchants in the early 18th century, so once again the Scottish Heritage Fair, sponsored by the city and the Alexandria Scottish Heritage Educational Foundation, Inc., educated the public about the arts, culture, history and heritage of Scotland through educational events.
