Robert Hill became a distinguished graduate of the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy on June 22, following in the footsteps of his father, Alexandria Police Cpl. Charles Hill, who was killed in the line of duty 22 years ago.

Hill, 28, was recognized for achieving the highest academic record during the six-month training period. He is now a Deputy of the Alexandria Sheriffs Office.

Hill was only three years old when his father responded to a hostage situation and received a fatal gunshot wound from the suspect.

I really hope hes up there watching, and hes really proud of me, Hill said.

Deputy David Barnickle and Deputy Terri Reed also graduated alongside Hill.
