A burglar made off with electronics and jewelry from an unlocked Duke Street apartment while the owner was down the hall in the laundry room, police say.

Authorities dont know how long the victim was away, but enough time passed for the thief to steal a flat-screen TV, DVD player and an engagement ring from the 5300 block apartment on June 8. The victim reported the theft at about 3:06 p.m. the same day.

There were no witnesses and authorities dont have a suspect description.

Police recommend residents keep their homes secured and locked whenever they leave, even if for a short time, said Ashley Hildebrandt, department spokeswoman.
