A national nonprofit dedicated to cultivating financial literacy recently named T.C. Williams a Blue Star School after students aced the organizations spring semester test.

About 92.75 percent of participating T.C. students, facing the Working in Support of Educations Financial Literacy Certification test for the first time, passed the exam. By comparison, the pass rate statewide was roughly 80.5 percent.

To earn the achievement, a school must boast a 75 percent pass rate with a majority of students in a class taking the exam or achieve an 80 percent pass rate among those participating. Students in Charles Lawrences economics and personal finance course and Jim Pondolfinos financial planning class took the test, according to officials.

The WISE exam is the sole industry certification test for finance approved by the state Department of Education.
