In the first two quarters of 2020, the Alexandria Times received $1,069.32 in donations to its FOIA Fund, with no donations reported in the third quarter.
The Times paid $407 for a FOIA request from the City of Alexandria regarding Seminary Road in the first quarter, leaving a FOIA Fund balance of $662.32. There were no FOIA expenditures during the second quarter, as the city provided several smaller FOIA requests at no charge.
In July, the Times submitted a FOIA request to Alexandria City Public Schools for documents relating to its reorganization that led to the departure of Chief Operating Officer Mignon Anthony. It took several months to narrow that search to an amount the Times could pay. The Times was charged $340 by ACPS for an Aug. 24 FOIA request, and $112.50 for a subsequent request on Oct. 5.
Those expenditures leave the Times FOIA Fund balance at $199.82. To donate to the Times FOIA Fund, go to https://bit.ly/2QXrasL. The total listed on the GoFundMe site is slightly lower than $1,069.32 because of donations mailed directly to the Times office.
