It took a year, but the T.C. Williams Titans have made amends and then some for an early exit from the 2010 Patriot District tournament at the hands of conference rival Annandale.
    
Seniors Tyrell Sitton and Jamal Pullen shepherded the Titans to a 69-56 victory over the Atoms in the Patriot District tournament championship game Friday night. The win sends T.C. back to the regional tournament for the first time in two years. 
    
It feels good to get what should have been ours a year ago, said coach Julian King. It feels really good to get it back.
    
Sitton, a team veteran who watched on as Annandale cruised past the Titans in the tournament’s first round a year prior, led T.C. in scoring with 13 points. Pullen, who had his 2009-10 season cut short for academic reasons, came away with 12 points.
    
That said, senior center Rick Matthews had a standout night with 11 offensive points. On the other half of the court, Matthews was the anchor of the defense, his coach said. 
    
As I said all year, we don’t have just one or two people who are going to score 20 to 25 points every night, King said. When we can get four or five guys to score, that’s better for us. It makes us more well balanced.
    
The Titans and Atoms split their regular season series. T.C. came away with a 56-50 victory in December only to see Annandale relish a 72-64 upset win a month later.
    
T.C. will face Oakton in the opening round of the regional tournament at 7:30 p.m. in the Garden on February 21. King will treat the fourth seed Cougars as if they’re top-ranked.
    
We’re just preparing for the best team, he said. For 32 minutes, anything can happen.
