The T.C. Williams football team scored its biggest win in years Thursday, upsetting regional power Oakton 15-9 at Parker Gray Stadium.
The Cougars, ranked third in this week’s Washington Post Metro Poll and state semifinalists a year ago, led 9-7 and seemed to have the game under wraps with two minutes to play until Titans’ linebacker Chelo Abbe recovered a Jimmy Boone fumble and returned it 43 yards for the game-winning touchdown.
Boone’s decisive fumble on a quarterback keeper was one of five turnovers including three Cougar miscues in the game’s final six minutes, serving up a wild finish to what had been a defensive battle for most of the contest.
After an season-opening loss to Robinson, the Titans are now 2-1 on the season and face Lake Braddock next week.
