At approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, units from Alexandria and Arlington fire departments responded to reports of fire coming from an attic at 3715 Lyons Lane, according to Alexandria Fire Department officials.
The first units on the scene reported heavy smoke and fire from the attic of an end-of-the-row townhouse and requested backup. Firefighter crews performed an aggressive interior attack containing the fire to the common attic of 3715 and 3713 Lyons Lane.
There were no reported injuries to residents in any of the four units.
The adjacent townhouses, located at 3709 and 3711 Lyons Lane, sustained smoke and heat damage. Fire marshals determined the cause of the fire to be electrical in nature and the total damage was estimated at $1 million.
Fire Marshals condemned all four units. Four families were displaced. The local chapter of the Red Cross relocated two families. The remaining residents will be staying with friends and relatives, according to the AFD.
