Two diners at Baja Fresh Restaurant were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after a passenger minivan drove into 3231 Duke St. restaurant early Friday afternoon.
The accident’s cause remains under investigation by Alexandria police, but officials say the errant vehicle struck the eatery about 2:12 p.m., pinning one patron underneath the minivan. Firefighters, arriving on scene not long after the crash, freed the unidentified individual with help from the department’s heavy rescue squad, authorities said.
A second victim was also treated for injuries on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital.
City inspectors are assessing the damages to the building, officials said.
