Civil War Artwork at Fort Ward Museum – Through December 31. Drawings by William Lydston, Jr., are on display as part of the exhibition of Civil War art at Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site. Civil War drawings by soldier, artist and musician William Lydston, Jr., are featured, with musical instruments and related objects as part of the statewide celebration of Virginias musical heritage. Admission is free. The museum, located at 4301 W. Archaeology Family Dig Days – Help city archaeologists and trained volunteers screen excavated soil for artifacts from a real dig on the grounds of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, located at 101 Callahan Dr., from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wear comfortable clothes, protect yourself from the sun, and bring a water bottle. Please, no sandals. All necessary equipment will be supplied. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Cost is $5 per person and reservations are required. Blueberry Art Gallery Exhibit – An art exhibit featuring artist Pridon Goisashvili will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. in suite 3110 at the Calvert building in Del Ray. Closing reception is August 31. 7th Annual 1 Love Community Festival – Operation H.O.P.E. & Untouchables present the 7th Annual 1 Love Community Festival. Hosted by WHUR 96.3 FM DJs Tony Richards of the Steve Harvey Morning Show and Taylor Thomas, the festival will also feature live gospel music, jazz, folk and poetry readings. Enjoy games, food, rides, water slides face painting, clowns and comedians too! There will also be a double-dutch tournament and a 3-on-3-basketball tournament with trophies and prize money. Homeschool Day – Explore Alexandria from the Colonial period to the present. The program begins at Gadsbys Tavern Museum and includes a tour and hands-on activities. Capital Dance Sport Championships – Three days of competitive ballroom dancing at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center. Dancers from across the United States come to the Capital Dancesport Championships in preparation for the U.S. Championships.
