Alerted by a security alarm, Alexandria police arrived at a bike shop to find that burglars had broken a window in an attempted bicycle theft earlier this month. 
    
Police say the would-be thieves smashed the front door window of the Spokes Etc. along North Quaker Lane about 3:04 a.m. July 6. The bicycle was on display inside the store, said Ashley Hildebrandt, department spokeswoman. 
    
Authorities dont know what kept the burglars from making off with the cycle.
    
Though the investigation is ongoing, there is no surveillance footage of the incident, and police dont have suspect descriptions, Hildebrandt said.
