A near robbery victim managed to frighten off a pair of would-be purse-snatchers when she began yelling at them after they attacked her on the 1200 block of Braddock Place in early January.

The suspects, described only as 5-foot-1 with thin builds, tried to tear her purse free at 6:46 p.m. January 4, said Ashley Hildebrandt, Alexandria Police Department spokeswoman. The duo gave up on the attempt after the victim began yelling, she said.

The pair had approached the victim from the front as she made her way home from the Braddock Road Metro station. They were apparently unarmed, Hildebrandt said.

There were no other similar incidents reported in the general vicinity, she said. Authorities have not yet made arrests in the case.
