Christine Sager Holderness passed away peacefully at Heritage Village Gainesville on July 14 at the age of 78.
Christine was a proud native Washingtonian, growing up in the Sager family on Q Street and Cathedral Avenue in Washington, D.C. She graduated from Western High School and attended American University at the age of 16. Christine was married to Aaron Claflin in 1964 at Holy Trinity in Georgetown, and they had two daughters. She later moved to Herndon/Reston, married Sam Stover in 1971 and Tom Holderness in 1980, which added five step-children to her blended family.
Christine worked in association management for 40 years. She retired as an executive assistant from the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and prior to that with the National Association of Secondary School Principals and Manufactured Homes Association.
Being adopted into the Bradley family, Christine did extensive genealogy research in which she successfully located her birth family. She was a previous member of the Old Dominion Boat Club in Alexandria and frequented her local favorites including Landini Brothers, Stella’s and Ramparts Tavern. She also enjoyed puzzling, reading mysteries and following politics and football.
Christine is survived by her two daughters, Maria Holderness in California, and Jen Walker-Deal in Virginia; granddaughter, Sydney Walker, in North Carolina; and sister, Patricia Morgan, in Arizona.
Funeral will be held on August 10 at 11 a.m. at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Alexandria.
