To the editor:

We thank all those who came to the gala on April 24 to kick off Alexandria’s commemoration of the War of 1812. It was a huge success, with more than 100 people in that glorious gem of a building, the Old Town Theater.

Part of the aim of the gala was to raise money for wounded soldiers on both sides of the Atlantic. As a result of the evening — and some specific donations we received — checks will be going to The Wounded Warrior Project for $1,696 and $596 for Help for Heroes.

The next events to look forward to are a run of four free concerts on the grounds of the Carlyle House. They will take place every Thursday evening at 6 p.m. starting June 5. Bring a picnic and enjoy the evening.

The first concert is called “British Invasion,” of course.
