If a tree falls in the woods
Your article, A tall order, (November 23, 2010) described how Alexandria got its handsome 40-foot Norway spruce for our Market Square holiday tree. I got to see it last Friday evening just after Major Euille lit it. A fine tree it is!
However, the next afternoon, in a blustery blast of wind, the tree toppled. Although the fallen tree covered part of King Street, Im happy to report that there were no serious injuries, even to the Potomac Choir members singing nearby.
However, it became necessary for fine folk singer Doris Justice to move her 2 p.m. performance away from King Street and up to City Hall. Being the trooper that she is, Doris sang a cappella for about three of us too cold to play her guitar, but she didnt fret over it and was not helped by a primitive city-provided sound system.
It is Alexandrias good fortune that Doris will be at St. Elmos Coffee Pub on Mt. Vernon Avenue on Friday evening, December 17, at 8 p.m. Come on by and hear a lovely lady put us in the holiday mood.
