To the editor:
Congratulations on your nomination as the Republican vice presidential candidate. This is an impressive achievement for a 39-year-old, particularly one that grew up the child of a single, opiod-addicted mother. Thanks to you and your wife and family for demonstrating that the American Dream is alive and well.
And you are welcome. I’m glad that public schools were there for you, and that your grandparents received sufficient federal support to raise you. I’m glad you were able to get lunch at school, and had teachers that cared. I’m glad that when you graduated from high school, the Marine Corps – part of the federal government – was there for you. I’m glad that the GI Bill and the citizens of Ohio paid for your Ohio State University education. I’m glad that your Yale Law School education was also paid for by federal dollars. I’m glad that you were able to find good employment in Silicon Valley, and that you returned to Ohio to help people there. I’m glad your mom is 10 years clean, and I wonder about what kind of support she has had to get there. I’m glad your wife’s family moved to the United States to seek a better life for their family and achieved that. I’m glad your neighbors in Del Ray are kind to you and your family.
So again, congratulations, Mr. Vance. Many thanks to you and your family for showing that the American Dream lives on. I hope your family inspires more people to work hard to achieve their American Dream, and I hope that America continues to be a place where the government at all levels invests in its people. And, you’re welcome.
