To the editor:
I am very pleased to announce that the tree lights on King Street will remain on this spring as we are getting closer to matching the money that city council — led by City Councilor Del Pepper — set aside for this purpose.
They saved $13,500 for this effort. We must match half of that by early March to keep the lights on through June. That is only $6,750.
I have pledged to help raise that money, and we have come up with several ways to reach this goal. The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce has agreed to keep the money in its foundations C3 fund. The chamber and the Old Town Business and Professional Association have endorsed this campaign. And the whole city is hoping that we can do this.
I do have several deposits in the bank already from the following individuals and businesses: Frank Fannon; George Seghers; the George Washington Masonic National Memorial; Ann Dorman with First Night; Andrew Palmerie; Lynn Hampton; Franco Landini with Landini Brothers Restaurant and Fish Market; The Enchanted Florist; Walker Real Estate; Hard Times Cafe; The Creamery; David Baker; Joan Renner; Maginniss & DelNinni Architects; and Don Simpson.
Other supporters include: John Porter with ACT for Alexandria; Phil Hollywood; Randall Larrimore; Helen Sullivan-Kumar; and Lana Slack.
Altogether, this comes to $3,775, more than half of our goal.
Please join these concerned residents, as we’re all in this together. Make your check out to The Alexandria Chamber Foundation Inc. and mark it for “Spring tree lights 2014.”
I will keep track of all the money as it comes in so I can make a public statement through the Alexandria Times as it has been keeping up with me and has published a very good story about my campaign.
Please send your checks to me — C/O Gold Works Inc., 1400 King St., Alexandria, VA 22314 — and I will see that they are deposited with the chamber immediately. Let us add your name to this growing list of supporters.
