To the editor:

There was a time when the opinions of civic associations would have carried some weight at City Hall. That no longer seems to be the case.

On Saturday, Old Town Civic Association, Rosemont Civic Association and Seminary Hill Association joined with Citizens for an Alternative Alexandria Waterfront Plan in asking the city council to defer the vote and improve the plan. Council ignored their requests and voted 5-2 for a plan favored by a business group called Waterfront For All.

No wonder Alexandrians are so dissatisfied with their elected officials.
