Thumbs up to Alexandria City Public Schools for finding creative alternatives to address their enrollment problems. By adding prefabricated modular units, the schools are saving time on renovations while providing classrooms and shrinking class sizes.

Thumbs down to the Alexandria City Council for deciding to alter the management of the Torpedo Factory Art Center. The Torpedo Factory and its artists have made a significant contribution to Alexandria and have done so extremely well with their own internal management over the past three decades. Instituting an outside board will run the risk of ruining the creative ambiance within.

Thumbs up to Burke and Herbert Bank, which has become a model for how a bank should operate. The reason Burke and Herbert continues to record dividends in a recession after giant banks failed is because of their commitment to their community of Alexandria and the rest of Northern Virginia.

Thumbs up to the Arlington police, the Alexandria police, the U.S. Park Police, the four K-9 units and several members of Alexandrias Special Operations team on their quick action in apprehending the alleged carjackers/robbers on July 28.
