To the editor:

I live in Cameron Station in the West End of Alexandria. I recently received correspondence from the South Pickett Street Corridor Improvement Project, which attempts to relieve concerns about increased traffic that is expected to result from vehicles cutting through Cameron Station to avoid the proposed improvements. The project is hosting a Zoom meeting, not an in-person meeting, which does not appear to include resident input or questions.

As we have seen many times before, City Council will do whatever it wants when it comes to development and traffic regulations regardless of the impact on residents. Imagine increased traffic and newly installed traffic lights on Cameron Station Boulevard – it isn’t hard to do for anyone that has recently driven by the new Alexandria City High School Minnie Howard campus on Braddock Road.

No regulations that the city passes ever make transit in Alexandria smoother, more efficient or less stressful, while unrestrained development continues to exacerbate the issue.

This is the problem with the arrogance of one-party rule that we have in Alexandria. This type of governance will continue until residents wake up and vote for diversity of representation among its elected officials. For those of you who vote on straight party lines in City Council elections, consider this when you vote in November.
