To the editor:

In response to the article Public art at Mark Center on hold (April 14, 2011), I agree with Congressman Morans assessment that the $600,000 earmarked for public art at Mark Center could be much more appropriately used to improve the infrastructure around the site

But what if a combined aesthetic and functional use of that money could be found? How about somehow embedding art in the engineering for the highway improvements that are needed just off the interstate going into the complex? Or placing the pieces alongside those roads as an inviting and distinct welcome? That way, more of the taxpayers financing the creative project would have an opportunity to enjoy it, and those commuters who are inevitably going to be stuck in traffic would have something pleasant and soothing to look at while sitting almost motionless in their cars.

Just a practical thought hopefully much better than a fairy tale.
