A grueling schedule and a series of tough losses have left the Alexandria Aces once again scrambling to get back on the winning side of .500 as the season nears its midpoint.

Alexandrias wooden bat collegiate summer team split a doubleheader with Youses Orioles June 24 before being swept by the Baltimore Redbirds in another doubleheader a day later. The Aces would drop four consecutive games before sneaking away with a 6-5 victory against the Orioles on Monday.

Brandon Englehardt, Chris Sweeney, Mike Godwin, Ryan Buter and Austin Richards all scored in the win.

Though the Orioles roared back within striking distance, scoring five runs in the fifth inning, Aces starting pitcher David Drinks and relievers Brendan Lozupone and Godwin kept the Youses squad off the scoreboard.

Drinks was credited with the win and Godwin, normally behind the plate, not throwing at it, with the save.

The 10-11 squad faces Bethesda Big Train Wednesday, after the Times deadline, before taking on the Silver Spring-Takoma T-Bolts Thursday and the Rockville Express Friday.
