The Bishop Ireton crew teams season is off to a great start with impressive results in its first four regattas.

On Saturday, the Cardinals rowed to great success against Holy Cross High School and Georgetown Day School, winning eight of nine races at the Holy Cross Invitational regatta held on the Anacostia River.

Head coach Ryan Gibson is confident that the recent results were born out of a grueling training regimen over spring break.

We went into the regatta stronger and faster having trained three practices per day over the spring break, Gibson said after Saturdays regatta, in which the boys side swept and the girls were able to claim largely for themselves as well.

As the league championship approaches, the team is gaining speed, looking strong and poised to compete at a high level, he said.

Prior to Saturdays races, the Cardinals had won the first annual Bishops Cup against Bishop OConnell on April 12, taking 10 of 12 races, including all of the boys events.
