Olympic fanfare is coming to Alexandria as the city prepares to celebrate the creation of the first International Olympic Committee in Paris more than a century ago.
The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities will host sporting events, special guests and a performance by local Motown group NU ERA at Nannie J. Lee Memorial Recreation Center June 17. The event coincides with the worldwide celebration of Baron Pierre de Coubertins June 23, 1894, founding of the modern Olympic games.
