The 2009 season has been the Bishop Ireton crew programs most successful to date, with three championship titles from the recent Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Rowing Championship, two team trophies at the Baltimore Championship Regatta earlier this year and at least two boats slated to compete in next weekends Scholastic Rowing Association national championships.
In the WMIRA championship on May 9, Ireton took home seven medals and three titles. The girls JV 4 had an impressive win edging out Elizabeth Ann Seton, Holy Cross, Holton Arms and Georgetown Day School to take the race by three lengths. The boat included Sarah Morgan, Meredith Ramey, Helen Fonda, Katherine Aust and Katie ONeill and the win qualified the group to attend the SRA National Championship.
The girls Novice 8 and Novice 4 both took home golds at the WMIRA competition as well, while the girls Varsity 4 earned silver with their performance and the boys Varsity 8 took third place.
