Trailing by seven points in the second half Saturday at St. Albans High School in Washington, the Episcopal Maroons late-game heroics fell just short as the team lost 14-13.
Adam Lynnes 9-yard touchdown run with less than two minutes to play brought the Maroon within one, but an attempted pass for the two-point conversion and the win was batted away by a Bulldog defender.
Senior quarterback Hunter de Butts finished with 171 yards on 21 carries, including a 58-yard score in the first half to lead Episcopal, but four turnovers and a rash of penalties at crucial points proved too much to overcome. St. Albans Rob Sniezek (20 carries, 103 yards) led the Bulldogs, rushing for his teams two touchdowns.
The Maroon (1-4) play again this Saturday at the Hummel Bowl against St. Christophers to highlight Parents Weekend. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
