It was a tight race to the finish line in Sunday’s 26th Annual George Washington Parkway Classic as four of the nation’s top male runners jockeyed for the lead throughout the 10-mile run from Mount Vernon Estate to Old Town.  

Former American University standout Steve Hallinan ultimately broke from the pack to win the race in 49 minutes and 29 seconds, edging out U.S. 25k record holder Fernando Cabada by .16 seconds. Coming in third with a time of 49:58.7 was Christopher Raabe, a qualifier for the 2008 U.S. Olympic marathon trials, followed closely by Adam Dumm, winner of the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon, with a time of 50:00.6.

Samia Akbar, who represented the United States in the World Cross Country championships in Amman, Jordan, last year, won the women’s race with a time of 56:02, followed by Aimee Phillppi in 1:00:28 and Alexandria resident Julie Culley in 1:01:07.
