Titans Drops Close One to Spartans
T.C. Williams fell to 2-3 on the season Saturday night when they lost 15-14 away to West Springfield. Leading 14-6 at halftime after two Robert Carter touchdown runs, T.C. gave up nine points in the third quarter and Spartan kicker John McConnells 45-yard field goal provided just the cushion the Spartans needed to hang on for the one-point victory.
The loss was T.C.s second straight after scoring an upset against then-ranked Oakton on September 17. The Titans travel to Annandale this Friday to face the 3-2 Atoms, who lost to Lee 33-23 last week.
Annandale, led by senior wide receiver Melvin Robinson, is coming off of two losses of its own and will be looking to get back on track against the Titans in what should be a pivotal contest at the halfway point of the regular season.
Saints Run Over Randolph-Macon
It was one touchdown after another for St. Stephens/St. Agnes Saturday as the Saints routed Randolph-Macon Academy 49-6 in Front Royal.
The Saints rang up 35 points in the first half alone, putting the game out of reach for the host Yellow Jackets. David Solomon ran for one touchdown and returned an interception for another in the Saints five-touchdown start. Sophomore running back Jalani Winbush also keyed in the win for St. Stephens, racking up 182 yards on 10 carries, including 80- and 33-yard touchdown runs.
The Saints moved to 3-1 with the win, rebounding from their lone setback a week before to Alexandria rival Bishop Ireton. They host Blue Ridge this Saturday at 2 p.m.
Ireton Blanks Bullis
A week after returning an interception for a game-sealing touchdown against St. Stephens/St. Agnes, Bishop Ireton defensive back Moses Webb returned another pick 74 yards for a touchdown against Bullis, sparking the Cardinals 28-0 home win last Saturday at Fannon Field.
Ireton (4-1) tacked on two more second-quarter touchdowns after Webbs interception return to head into halftime with a 21-0 lead. Doug Vines ran for one touchdown and caught another for the Cardinals in the game-breaking second period.
The Cardinals travel to St. Albans (1-3) this Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
Episcopal No Match for Collegiate
Facing a sizeable halftime deficit, the Maroon were unable to mount enough of a second-half comeback to wrestle the game from the Collegiate School Cougars, losing 23-7 Saturday at the Hummel Bowl.
Collegiate, entering the game with a sterling 3-0 record, built its 20-0 halftime lead on three touchdown passes from quarterback Jake McGee (23-36, 292 yards) and never really looked back.
However, Episcopal managed to narrow the lead on its first second-half possession an 11-play drive culminating with a 24-yard Will Kalaris touchdown catch.
Episcopal (1-2) starts league play tomorrow afternoon with a visit to Landon.
