St. Stephens and St. Agnes star runner Danielle Williams last week placed third in the Emerging Elite 100 meters and 14th in the Elite 200 meters at the Nike National High School Championship track meet in Greensboro, N.C.

In the Emerging Elite 4×100 relay she teamed up with freshman Lauren Martin and juniors Mya Reid and Briana Richardson to set a new school record of 49.07 seconds in the preliminary rounds on Friday. Then, not 24 hours later, the girls broke their own record with a new time of 48.97 seconds in the finals good enough for third place.

Coach Scott McLeod said that the Saints relay team had set the goal of making the final and breaking 49 seconds, and left Greensboro able to say, Check and check.

Also competing in the high-profile meet, T.C. Williams senior Tynita Butts wrapped up her career with a win in the high jump (5 feet, 10.5 inches) and came in second in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 11.5 inches. Butts leaves T.C. as a six-time All-American, four-time national champion, four-time state champion and two-time Penn Relays champion.
